Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, has expressed disappointment at soldiers manning Damaturu-Maiduguri road in the state for alleged collecting N1000 bribe per vehicle.
The governor expressed this concern on Monday afternoon when He was on his way to Jakana, a community where Boko Haram insurgents struck on Saturday as He reportedly ran into a long queue of vehicles at one of the checkpoints.
Following an earlier brief over the extortion by the soldiers, the governor alighted from his vehicle and walked straight to where some of the soldiers were and said:
“I’m going to report all of you in this unit… nobody can tolerate this. Boko Haram is attacking people and you are here collecting N1000 per car”.
Attempts by one of the soldiers to calm the governor down as He fired back, saying: “But we saw them.”
The Nigerian Army was yet to react to the incident as at press time.
