Amidst increased terror war in the country by members of the dreaded Boko Haram Islamic sect and their sister groups, a lawmaker elected under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam has sponsored a bill seeking to establish an agency for rehabilitation of repentant insurgents.
The bill titled “National Agency for the Education, Rehabilitation, De-radicalisation and Integration of repentant insurgents in Nigeria” has passed first reading at the senate.
There were mixed reactions from senators after Ovie Omo-Agege, deputy senate president, hit the gavel approving the bill for first reading.
This coming amidst severe criticism of the Federal government over the released of about 1400 members of Boko Haram who are believed to have repented and we’re rehabilitated.
Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, who represents Yobe east senatorial district was a former governor of the state.
