A Catholic priest in Casnigo, Italy, identified as Fr Giuseppe Berardelli, who sacrificed his respirator to a younger patient with Coronavirus has ended up losing his own life from the same Coronavirus.
This act by the deceased Priest was made public by James Martin, an editor at large at Americamag, a US publication, on Twitter.
Mr. Martin, said Berardelli, aged 72, gave out the respirator bought for him by his parishioners to the patient whom he did not know.
“Fr. Giuseppe Berardelli, a 72-year-old priest who gave a respirator (that his parishioners had purchased for him), to a younger patient (whom he did not know), has died from #coronavirus.
“Greater love has no person…” (Jn 15:13)”, he tweeted.
Fr.Berardelli, who was until his death the archpriest of Casnigo reportedly died at a hospital in Lovere, Bergamo – one of the worst-hit cities in Italy.
This death was also confirmed by Araberara, an Italian newspaper and Clara Poli, the mayor of Fiorano.
The archpriest of Casnigo reportedly had health problems but “he fought with his usual smile and that grit to those who rely on God.”
A respirator is an apparatus used to induce artificial respiration, as one major symptom of COVID-19 is difficulty in breathing.
