No New Country To Be Created Out Of Nigeria And Cameroon, UN Clarifies

The United Nations Office in Nigeria has debunked viral rumour about the creation of a new country out of Nigeria and Cameroon.

Bittertruth Media recalls that the rumour had gone viral that the country to be known as UNO State of Cameroon would be proclaimed by the United Nations on 10 July, 2020.

The rumoured source had claimed that the new country incorporates 24 LGAs from Nigeria and the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.

However, according to a UN source quoted by AIT.Live, the rumour is fictional and false.

The source added that the UN does not create countries.

Bittertruth Media gathered that the trashed report was based on a misrepresentation of the Greentree Agreement, between Nigeria and Cameroon, which was signed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo for Nigeria and Paul Biya for Cameroon on 12 June 2006.

The Agreement was the formal treaty which resolved the Cameroon-Nigeria border dispute over the oil and natural gas rich Bakassi peninsula.
